For Families
Children of every culture learn through stories of humanlike animals, and young people are particularly drawn to “furry” art. For some, it’s a way to develop art skills; for others, it’s a journey of imagination that helps them understand their place in the world.
The Otterdam Furry Arts Festival aims to give families ways to better connect with each other through the medium of furry arts. All parts of the festival at Het Nieuwe Instituut are open to under-18s; Here are some activities of special interest to them.
Fursuit Parade | Performers in one-of-a-kind, custom-made “fursuits” march and frolic through the local area, with many opportunities for photos. |
“The Den“ | A separate, parent-led creativity space where under-18s can draw, play games, do crafts, dream up furry characters, or just chill. |
Speaker program | Talks throughout the weekend, including one from “Moms of Furries” (US) on understanding your child’s interest in furry art. |
VR portal | See yourself as the animal of your choice in a virtual-reality world. |
Photo corner | Ask your favourite critter for a backdrop-enhanced photo. |
Artist’s Alley | Buy cute trinkets, art, and costume pieces directly from the artists – or commission one to draw you as your inner animal. |
